Atrial septal defect closure device

Case contributed by Dr Jeremy Jones

An ASD closure device is noted just to the left of the vertebral column.

Rotated film. Lungs are well expanded and clear. Heart size enlarged. Slight prominence of bronchovascular markings secondary to underinflation. No effusion.

Case Discussion

Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects have been shown to be quicker, tolerated better and cheaper but just as effective as traditional surgical repair.
