Atrophic polycystic kidneys and Alport syndrome

Patient has a history of Alport syndrome.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

CT demonstrates atrophic polycystic kidneys (note that they are reduced in volume rather than enlarged as would be the case in adult polycystic kidney disease). 

Case Discussion

This patient has established Alport syndrome - not that you can make the diagnosis on the basis of this scan alone.
