Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease

Presentation

Microscopic hematuria

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Norma liver size, with homogenous parenchymal enhancement, contains few thin wall cystic lesions largest one measures 11 mm at segment VI.

Enlarged both kidneys in size (each measured about 15x6 cm) due to bilateral multiple various size thin wall cysts largest one at the left side measured 25 mm, there is enhanced, thin parenchyma between cysts, few of them show high signal on T1 suggestive of hemorrhage or presence of proteinaceous fluid.

No suspicious lesion is seen.

Case Discussion

The patient after flank discomfort, urologist sent for urine analysis in which it revealed microscopic hematuria, then ultrasound was done which showed multiple various size renal cysts then clinician request an MRI.

As cerebral berry aneurysms are found in 6% of patients with ADPKD without a family history of aneurysms, and in up to 16% of patients with ADPKD with a family history. So, the suggestion of brain MR angiography is recommended.
