Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (antenatal US)

22 week pregnancy

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

Severe oligohydramnios and an enlarged abdomen circumference caused by enlarged kidneys.  

Both kidneys were replaced by numerous irregular cystic structures (1-3mm) with echogenic tissue separating them. The contour is mildly lobulated.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates a cystic kidney disease of childhood, with the main differential diagnosis being autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) and bilateral multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK).
