Avascular necrosis of humerus

Presentation

Persistent non traumatic shoulder pain since 6 months.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
mri

Well marginated heterogeneous T1 and T2 signal intensity lesion (double line sign) is seen involving proximal epi, meta and diaphysis of humerus with secondary erosions and areas of collapse (rim sign) of the epiphysis. No associated soft tissue components. 

The CT depicts the erosion and collapse of the humeral proximal epiphysis. 

Case Discussion

The imaging features are typical of avascular necrosis of humeral head. It is the second most common site of avascular necrosis following the hip.
