Avascular necrosis of the capitate

There is abnormal signal intensity in the capitate bone returning heterogeneous high signal in T2 Fat Sat, and low signal in T1 weighted images. No bony fragmentation or collapse is seen.
Minimal fluid signal is seen around the capitate bone.
Case Discussion
The features are of capitate avascular necrosis. Capitate AVN is a rare entity. Trauma is the cause in the majority of cases. In our case, no history of trauma was reported.
