Presentation
Previous history of a left femoral neck fracture two years ago presented with the left thigh pain for the last six months.
Patient Data
Evidence of a geographic heterogeneous areas of abnormal signal intensity involving the left proximal femoral head associated with subchondral collapse, deformity of the femoral head and demonstrating a secondary degenerative changes and a linear hypointense line involving the epiphysis to the femoral neck denoting previous fracture line associated with bone marrow edema, the findings in favor of an avascular necrosis (stage IV) secondary to previous fracture of the femoral neck.
Case Discussion
The etiology of avascular necrosis of the hip is either traumatic secondary to the neck of femur fracture as in this case which is usually unilateral or non-traumatic. In non-traumatic cases, it is bilateral in 40%.
