Presentation
Right hip pain after falling down while playing football.
Patient Data
A right lesser trochanteric avulsion fracture is noted with an upward displacement of the right lesser trochanter apophysis.
No obvious other acute bony fracture.
An avulsion injury is seen in the right lesser trochanter (at the site of iliopsoas muscle attachment) with minimal upward displacement.
Minimal edematous changes were seen in the distal part of the right iliopsoas muscle associated with minimal fluid surrounding its tendon.
No bone marrow edema.
No other obvious fracture.
Case Discussion
Avulsion fracture of the lesser trochanter at the site of iliopsoas muscle insertion may be induced by forceful muscle contraction in young athletes, however, in older age group pathological fracture should be considered.
