Azygos lobe

A preparation for inguinal hernia operation. The patient is otherwise asymptomatic.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

A fine convex line through the right apex (azygos fissure), which ends just below right clavicle as a teardrop-shaped formation, which actually represents azygos vein.

Chest radiograph otherwise normal.

Case Discussion

An incidental finding on the preoperative chest radiograph.

It is important to be familiar with this variation, so it shouldn't be mistaken for a pathology.
