Patient Data

Age: 10 years

Baker cyst at the posteromedial aspect of the knee with a communicating tract to the knee joint traversing between the medial head of the gastrocnemius and the semimembranosus tendon. No leakage of fluid intensity at the popliteal fossa to suggest rupture.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound and MRI imaging modalities are ideal for diagnosis of Baker cyst. Identification of the 'neck' between the semimembranosus tendon and the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle is necessary for a definitive diagnosis.
