Basal ganglia haemorrhage

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Presentation

Headache.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
CT

There is a sizable haemorrhage centred in the left basal ganglia. No interventricular extension. No midline shift. Hypodensities within the right centrum semiovale and adjacent to the frontal horn of the right lateral ventricle likely relate to previous ischaemia.

Case Discussion

This patient had a known history of poorly controlled hypertension, almost certainly the cause of this typical basal ganglia haemorrhage
