Basal ganglia T1 hyperintensity

Presentation

Clinical picture raised a suspicion of encephalitis, so an MRI Brain study was done

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Bilateral symmetrical T1 hyperintense signals from globus pallidi not enhancing on the postcontrast study. 

Case Discussion

Lab parameters revealed an album - globulin reversal. The possibility of chronic liver disease was suggested to the clinician. Screening ultrasound abdomen revealed hepatic sonomorphology suggestive of chronic liver parenchymal changes. 

Hence a diagnosis of hepatolenticular degeneration was given.
