Basilar artery thrombosis

Case contributed by Dr Sajoscha Sorrentino

Presentation

Coma.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Female
CT

While no territorial infarction was seen on the native scan, the basilar artery appeared to be hyperdense (not shown).

CT-angiography clearly showed a thrombus in the head of the basilar artery going over into both posterior cerebral arteries.

Patient was transferred to neuroradiology and catheter-directed intra-arterial thrombolysis was performed.
