The left lobe of the liver is slender and extends laterally to wrap around the anterior border of the spleen, what is known as a 'beaver tail' liver.
Also note how low density the liver is in keeping with steatosis. The patient was alcoholic.
Case Discussion
The beaver tail liver is a variant of hepatic morphology, which if the spleen and liver are the same density can simulate a left hepatic mass.
