Benign hypertrophy of left masseter and left pterygoid muscles

Presentation

Left lower facial swelling for 3 years

Patient Data

Age: 16 years
Gender: Female

The left masseter muscle and left pterygoid muscle are hypertrophoid and are asymmetrically-enlarged compared to the right side. No focal lesion or abscess is seen. 

Case Discussion

Hypertrophy of masseter muscle is a condition that mainly does not require surgical intervention. It is an example of a pseudomass, i.e. it mimics true pathology.
