Presentation

Fall with injury to the hand. Swelling and tenderness over the base of 1st metacarpal bone/ with painful thumb movements.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Intra-articular fracture and mild displacement of the base of the 1st metacarpal bone (Bennett fracture).

Mild negative ulnar variance is incidentally seen.

Case Discussion

Bennett fractures are two-part intra-articular fractures of the base of the first metacarpal. They need to be distinguished from epibasal (pseudo-Bennett) and Rolando fractures.
