Recent head trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

Bilateral arachnoid cysts in the middle cranial fossae, anterior to the temporal, larger on the left side. Mild subfalcine herniation to the right. No acute intracranial hemorrhage, cortical infarct, or edema was identified.

Case Discussion

Arachnoid cysts are benign cysts grown due to the arachnid membrane not communicating with the ventricular system. They usually contain normal CSF. Most of them are developmental. However, some are secondary to neoplasms resulting from adhesions. Intervention is indicated if there is a complication due to mass effect.
