Age: Adult
Gender: Female

Bilateral extracapsular and intracapsular rupture of silicone implants, this is best seen at the lateral, posterior, medial and superior aspects of the right breast implant.

PASTA Si, PASTA and PASTA Si IR, T1 3D acquisition; T2: right breast; T2: left breast.  sequences. Acquired on 1.5 T Toshiba Titan.

Case Discussion

This case employs PASTA (polarity-altered spectral and spatial selective acquisition) sequences, the Toshiba name for water excitation MRI sequences.


  • PASTA Si: suppresses water and saline, leaving fat and silicone visible
  • PASTA: suppresses fat and silicone, leaving water and saline visible
  • PASTA Si IR: suppresses water, saline and fat, leaving only silicone visible
