Bilateral breast implants and nipple piercings

Case contributed by Mark Holland
Diagnosis not applicable

Presentation

Seventh round breast-screen. Asymptomatic.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Normal breasts at mammography. Implants intact.

Unusual to have augmentation implants and nipple jewelry.

Case Discussion

There is an increased risk of infection to the prosthesis with piercings in situ. This is true for any piercing in the breast: a breast abscess post-piercing is not an uncommon complication.
