Bilateral breast invasive lobular carcinoma

Case contributed by Mohammad Taghi Niknejad
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Palpable breast masses bilaterally.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Patchy and dense asymmetric fibroglandular tissue is seen in both breasts.

A hyperdense mass with irregular and spiculated margins containing areas of internal calcification can be seen in the UOQ of the left breast and a similar smaller mass in the UOQ of the right breast. Both masses cause surrounding tissue distortion and nipple retraction. (BI-RADS 5)

Dominant lymph nodes are evident in the axillary regions of both sides.

Case Discussion

The patient underwent a bilateral breast core needle biopsy, and histopathology evaluation confirmed invasive lobular carcinoma.

Typically, invasive lobular carcinoma can be multicentric and bilateral (10-15%), and an imaging evaluation of the contralateral breast is needed.
