Presentation

Scalp hematoma with crepitation. The mother denies head trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 1 month
Gender: Male

Bilateral parietal cephalohematomas - the right one measures 55 x 41 x 8 mm (AP x TRV x thickness), with hematocrit effect, and the left one measures 47 x 26 x 5.5 mm. Each hematoma is surrounded by a thin calcified (ossified) rim. Impression of mild bilateral depression of inner lamella.
No intracranial hemorrhage.
Ventricles of normal dimensions and anatomic location, sulcation concordant with chronological age.

Case Discussion

Late prematurity. History of vaginal delivery converted to emergent cesarean section. Later on, the parents noticed bulges on the head. Crepitation elicited on palpation.

CT showed bilateral calcified cephalohematomas, with a hematocrit effect in the right, larger one.
