Bilateral hip avascular necrosis

Bilateral hip pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Bilateral abnormal marrow signal intensities in the femoral heads characteristic of avascular necrosis (AVN); a hypointense line adjacent to a hyperintense line with surrounding marrow edematous changes.

Bilateral hip joint effusion.

Case Discussion

The patient referred to us with the history of chronic hip pain bilaterally and a year history of prednisolone use.  Appearances are those of avascular necrosis of femoral head on both sides.
