Patient Data

Age: 16 years
Gender: Female

Multiple foci of calcification in bilateral basal ganglia and sub-cortical white matter is seen.

Case Discussion

Pseudohypoparathyroidism is a disease where there is end-organ resistance to parathyroid hormone.

Some of central nervous system manifestations of this condition are: basal ganglia calcification, sclerochoroidal calcification and deep white matter calcification.

In this patient, pseudohypoparathyroidism is the most probable diagnosis according to her past medical history of chronic kidney disease. Hypoparathyroidism and Fahr disease are other metabolic differential diagnoses.
