Failure of union of inferior articular processes of L3; two such unfused ossification centers on the right and one on the left.
Case Discussion
The patient was scanned for complaints of flank pain. No obstructing urinary stone on CT abdomen stone protocol. Incidental finding of unfused ossification centers in the inferior articular processes of a lumbar vertebra 1, known as Oppenheimer ossicles - the fragments are well-corticated and there is no history of trauma to the lumbar region.
