Bilateral pulmonary nodules: tuberculous granulomas

Case contributed by Dr Callum Smith

Presentation

Routine chest x-ray in a patient with a long smoking history and past treated tuberculosis.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

Bilateral high density / calcified pulmonary nodules. Left lower zone bullae. Left apical pleural thickening.

Case Discussion

A 70-year-old man with proven past pulmonary tuberculosis treated with antibiotics and left apical bullectomy.

Left apical pleural thickening is present which represents scarring in this case. High-density/calcified pulmonary nodules with this history represent healed tuberculosis.
