Presentation
Worsening confusion following an unwitnessed fall on the background of recurrent falls.
Patient Data
There are large bilateral subdural hematomas of mixed density, extending from the anterior attachment of the falx cerebri to the posteromedial aspect of the occipital bone. Fluid-fluid levels are present. There is an associated symmetrical mass effect exerted on the parenchymal tissue.
Case Discussion
CT scan of the head in this elderly patient demonstrates bilateral acute on chronic subdural hematomas. This case provides a good example of the hematocrit effect.
The patient subsequently underwent a bilateral microcraniotomy.
