Grossly enlarged bilateral palatine tonsils with subtle hypodensity within the right one (see the venous phase key image), raising the possibility of abscess formation. Marked diffuse pharyngeal mucosal edema, bilaterally. Numerous reactive lymph nodes. Incidental megacisterna magna.
Case Discussion
Findings are in line with pronounced bilateral tonsillitis, subsequent workup also confirmed infectious mononucleosis. Conservative inpatient treatment resulted in rapid and uneventful recovery.
