No fracture or malalignment. Incidental finding of bipartite lateral hallux sesamoid and bone island in third middle phalanx.
The key differential for this cause is a fracture of the hallux sesamoid. A bipartite hallux sesamoid, as in this case, has the following features:
- transverse lucency
- smooth, well-corticated margins
- two bony fragments are greater in size than the other hallux sesamoid
