Case Discussion

Bipartite hallux sesamoid is a normal variant that can be seen in approximately 33% of hallux sesamoids. The essential differential diagnosis of bipartite hallux sesamoid is a fractured bone that can be challenging to differentiate. The features that support a bipartite over a fractured sesamoid include:

  • transverse lucency
  • smooth, well-corticated margins
