Presentation

Knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Small bony fragment is noted in the superolateral aspect of the left patella with smooth margin without sclerotic changes.

Case Discussion

Features are compatible with bipartite patella (type III according to H Saupe classification), which is a patella with an unfused accessory ossification center at the superolateral aspect.

Note the superolateral location of the bony fragment in relation to patella with smooth margins and no overlying soft tissue swelling.
