Bipartite patella

AP view of the knee showed a rounded corticated bony fragment in the superolateral aspect of the patella.
Lateral knee x-ray showed a lucent line in the patella.
Fabella is noted.
Case Discussion
Features are characteristic of bipartite patella (type III according to H Saupe classification), a normal variant of the patella. It is usually asymptomatic and only 2% of patients with bipartite patella experience symptoms such as anterior knee pain, especially after trauma like in this case.
