Case contributed by Dr Bahman Rasuli

Presentation

A painless left breast lump was accidentally discovered a month ago.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
Mammography

There is an irregular, hyperdense mass with spiculated margins in the upper central part of the left breast.

Left-sided dense axillary lymphadenopathy.

Case Discussion

A BI-RADS 5 lesion has the typical imaging features of breast malignancy. On a mammogram, any two of the following features are demonstrated:

  • spiculated or irregular mass
  • high density
  • fine linear or linear branching segmental calcifications

Nipple retraction, skin thickening, and evidence of interval growth, if present, would support the diagnosis.
