Blunt thoracic aortic injury

Presentation

Pedestrian vs vehicle. Witnessed loss of consciousness. Found to be GCS 10-11/15 at the scene. Intubated at the scene. E-fast scan of chest and abdomen at the scene were negative. Mildly hypotensive on transfer to ED.

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male

CT A demonstrating transection of thoracic aorta at level of T4-6 with associated anterior pseudoaneurysm and surrounding mediastinal para-aortic hematoma extending down to the aortic hiatus. Appearances are suggestive of a contained aortic transection with a slow leak

Case Discussion

Grade IV aortic injury. The patient underwent an endovascular repair of the aortic transection.
