Abnormal chest radiograph on pre employment check up

Patient Data

Age: 20 years old
Gender: Male

CT scout image reveals indistinct right diaphragmatic copula with right paracardiac soft tissue shadow. CT images show a defect of the right crus of the diaphragm with herniation of the stomach, the first part of the duodenum and part of the left lobe of the liver into the right hemithorax.

Case Discussion

The defect of the right diaphragmatic crus resulted in herniation of abdominal contents to the right hemithorax. The patient was asymptomatic and there was no signs of gastric obstruction or ischemia.
