Bone stress injury - tibia

Athlete with a history of localized pain that occurs during exercise at the anterior aspect of the mid-tibial shaft.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

The MRI sequences demonstrate:

  • periosteal edema of the anterior and medial aspect of the mid-tibial shaft
  • extensive adjacent bone marrow edema visible on both T1 and STIR
  • linear intracortical fracture well-visualized on the sagittal T1 and STIR sequences
