Presentation
Ultrasound for deranged liver function tests
Patient Data
Incidental simple cortical cyst in the lower pole of the right kidney.
Thin walled cyst in the lower pole of the kidney, without internal echoes, calcification or solid components.
Case Discussion
Renal cortical cysts are frequently encountering during all types of abdominal imaging, in particular ultrasound. These are almost always an incidental finding. Renal cysts are observed.
Renal cysts are classified using the well established Bosniak renal cyst classification. This is a set of internationally recognized criteria used to help appropriately label the cysts and their clinical significance.
Type 1 cysts are simple, benign and require no additional imaging either to characterize or follow up.
