Presentation

Swollen hand after punching a wall. Tenderness over the ulnar side of the hand.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Radiographs revealed a 5th metacarpal neck fracture with volar angulation, which is commonly referred to as a boxer fracture.

Case Discussion

Boxer fractures are usually the result of axial loading of the metacarpal head, which oftentimes is caused by punching a hard surface.
