Presentation

Chronic pain in the medial aspect of left foot.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Female
X-ray

Incidental brachymetatarsia in the second metatarsus.

Hallux valgus deformity of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. There is associated mild narrowing of the first metatarsophalangeal joint compartment. 

Small marginal osteophytes. small peri-articular erosions around the involved joint space. 

There is evidence of associated soft tissue swelling (bunion formation).

Case Discussion

There is incidental brachymetatarsia in the second metatarsus which is considered a developmental variation in the absence of trauma.
