Presentation
An asymptomatic man underwent a calcium score computed tomography. He had a previous history of prostate cancer treated with brachytherapy.
Patient Data
On the topogram, a small hyperdense linear structure is identified on the left lung, overlaid on the cardiac shadow.
On CT, the presence of the tiny hyperdense linear structure, with beam and streak artifacts in the lung parenchyma is confirmed.
Given the past history of brachytherapy and absence of pulmonary surgery, the diagnosis of lung seed migration was made.
Case Discussion
Brachytherapy seed migration to the lung is infrequent and usually asymptomatic. Nonetheless, the radiologist should be aware of this finding, in order to avoid a misdiagnosis.
