Nuclear medicine

Absent intracranial uptake of tracer and increased external carotid artery perfusion to the nasal region.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates both the empty light bulb and hot nose signs of brain death on the nuclear medicine brain perfusion study.

The patient sustained a vertebral artery transection associated with the cranio-cervical dissociation during the traumatic injury.
