Diagrams depicting the brain venous vascular territories. The right side of the brain illustrates specific veins (or groups of veins) draining the colored regions whereas the left side of the brain gives a more general venous distribution based on the closest dural venous sinus that receives blood from the draining veins.
Please note that there is significant variation between patients and even side-to-side in the same patient, hence this case should only be used as a rough guide. Also please note that the anastomotic veins of Trolard and Labbe have a reciprocal arrangement where if one is a large vessel draining a large cortical territory, the other will be small.
PCF: posterior cranial fossa
Case Discussion
There is significant variation in many textbooks and other resources describing the venous vascular territories of the brain. This illustrative case is a rough guide to the major important and more consistent venous drainage territories.
