Patient Data

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
MRI

Ganglioglioma centred on the left middle cerebellar peduncle.

Case Discussion

Pathologically-proven ganglioglioma

Pathology report:

  • Immunohistochemistry

GFAP+, Ki-67 very focally increased, NEU-N-, NFP, P53+, SYNAPT+

  • Diagnosis:

brainstem tumor:
cerebellar tissue, no neoplasm seen
ganglioglioma

Comment
Although most ganglioglioma are of WHO grade I, with no definitive established criteria for grade II ganglioglioma, this tumor shows diffuse pattern, as demonstrated on NFP immunostain and very focal increase in Ki-67 proliferation index. The overall features probably favour more grade II ganglioglioma.
