Breast abscess

Case contributed by Dr Ayla Al Kabbani

Pain and swelling in the right breast in a non-breast feeding mother.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses (composition C).

A big, oval mass with obscured margins and density equal to the fibroglandular tissue is seen in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast.

The ultrasound (not shown) revealed a complex cyst, so puncture aspiration was done.

Pathology reveals a breast abscess.
