Breast abscess

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Lactating mother complaining of lumps in right breast with fever since last 12 days. Larger lump was in the upper inner quadrant while the smaller lump at 9 o'clock.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a lobulated collection with mobile echoes mainly in the upper and inner quadrant; extending from 11 o'clock to 3 o'clock. Its deeper part abuts pectoralis major muscle. Approximate size is 90 x 55 x 35 mm with a volume of about 95 ccs.

There is a discrete smaller collection ( about 17mm x 15mm x 11 mm ) in a superficial plane at 9 o'clock.

There is a non-necrotic axillary node.

Case Discussion

A lactating mother presented with right breast lumps and fever since last 12 days. Ultrasound shows two separate abscesses which were drained surgically.
