Screening mammograms show skin calcifications of the areola, which are bilateral, round and homogeneous. They are more numerous in the left than in the right areola.
The calcifications are typical benign and are developed within the Montgomery glands of the areola.
The woman is 52 years old and did not have surgery. The nipples are normal and no mass is present.
Case Discussion
They are a rare finding that must be differentiated from pleomorphic subareolar calcifications of intraductal carcinoma and from benign calcifications in the skin of the areola, secondary to surgery.
