Breast cancer - temporal evolution

Case contributed by Dr Garth Kruger

Screening images of the left breast

Patient Data

Age: 70
Gender: Female

No abnormality on the MLO view of the left breast in 2011.

A subtle asymmetry is seen at 4 o' clock left breast and the patient recalled for work up.

An Infiltrating ductal carcinoma confirmed by ultrasound guided breast biopsy.

Case Discussion

It is important not to read breast imaging without reference to previous studies. This case was easy because the parenchyma was fatty. It would be very difficult to find a lesion this small early in a dense breast.
