Case contributed by Mohammad Taghi Niknejad
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right breast palpable mass and nipple retraction on physical exam.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female
mammography

A hyperdense mass with an irregular and spiculated margin and several internal fine calcification foci is present in the central part of the right breast, which causes surrounding parenchymal distortion and nipple retraction. (BI-RADS 5)

ultrasound

A hypoechoic mass with an irregular and angulated margin causes surrounding parenchymal distortion. (BI-RADS 5)

Case Discussion

Ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy of the right breast mass confirmed invasive breast carcinoma of no special type.

Malignant breast masses on mammography are often hyperdense on mammography images and hypoechoic on ultrasound evaluations. Marginal irregularity and speculation are the main findings, and internal fine calcification foci and surrounding parenchymal distortion may also be seen, which are better detected on mammography images.
