Bronchial carcinoid tumour

Case contributed by Dr Sam Kyle

Patient Data

Age: Young adult
Gender: Female
Modality: X-ray

Left lower lobe collapse.

A number of interval repeat CXRs showed same finding of persistent LLL collapse.  Was initially attributed to asthma with mucus plugging.  Because of failure to resolve, CT chest performed.

Modality: CT

Enhancing lesion which appears endobronchial obstructing the LLL bronchus and causing LLL collapse.

Case Discussion

Persistent collapse or consolidation on chest x-ray is an indication for further investigation with CT in any patient.
