Hodgkin disease follow-up.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Nuclear medicine

Symmetric intense FDG uptake in the neck, supraclavicular fossa, paravertebral, axilla and mediastinum, corresponding to fat areas, is shown. These hypermetabolic areas are compatible with activated brown adipose fat (BAT) and shouldn't be confused with malignancy localizations.

Case Discussion

Activated brown adipose tissue (BAT) is a potential pitfall on 18-FDG PET/CT. The PET/CT study has been performed on January and the patient is relatively young. It is well known that BAT accumulation is inversely proportional to age and its metabolism is extremely stimulated by cold temperature.
