Brucella spondylodiscitis - cervical

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Neck pain with myalgia and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

Mild narrowing of C5-C6 disc space with a low T1, high T2 and STIR of the neighboring vertebral end-plates with enhancement on postcontrast sequences (bone marrow edema). Soft tissue thickening with edematous infiltration and enhancement of the prevertebral space extending up to the retropharyngeal space. There is also thickening with enhancement of the anterior epidural space at the C5-C6 level. No evidence of abscess formation is seen.

Case Discussion

MRI features of C5-C6 spondylodiscitis. The laboratory investigations were positive for Brucellosis.
